Greetings, so today the blog has officially reached readers in 111 islands and countries. Thanks very much to everyone who’s been here for awhile and to those who are now finding it or eventually will. I started what’s now called itsjoywithin.com to the sound of crickets on a farm in Bim and it’s organically grown into one of the “Top 40 Caribbean lifestyle blogs & websites to follow” by FeedSpot. Currently at #17. I doh write for likes but am glad y’all who visit here feel the love.
This March makes it a 10 year labour of love with over 300 multimedia posts and 30 guests from around the map. When the most High gives you a seed, water it well, work diligently, rest when you need to, learn from mistakes, ask for help along the way, fan off the flies and mosquitoes in life, don’t compare your assignment or journey, know when to share and when to quietly press in, have faith, watch it flourish, be humble, avoid arrogance no matter how trendy it seems, ask for wisdom from above to know how best to inspire others and remember who gave you that seed in the first place. Even a seed can sprout into an idol. Stay thankful. This was launched at a tough season to say the least so here’s hoping knowing that can be real life encouragement to anybody who’s called to start a blog or any kind of project but might be doubting if you can do it.
If you’re a new or aspiring blogger, you might find there’s little or no applause, confetti, bells or whistles when you start and share your online writing journey at first if you’re not on the trending list of public figures. At least there was none on my side, writing from a little island in The Caribbean where the word ‘blog’ is only now picking up as something interesting and innovative to have, when you’re not part of a big company or organisation. But that’s not why writers write. When you remember the purpose in your writing, and the person – people on the other side of the screen, you’ll know it’s worth every effort to keep on writing, set your rhythm, schedule well and think sustainably.
The call to share something online can come with nerves or tech-intimidation along the way and especially when you first click publish and realise that it doesn’t stop there. In fact it’s only now started and the nature of a blog is continuity, for the most part.
